Counselor Patsy Bentley is an ordained minister of the gospel, and earned her Master’s Degree in Biblical Counseling from Briarwood Seminary in Birmingham. She also received her Certificate in Biblical Studies with a concentration in the field of Biblical Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. At Westminster she had the privilege of studying under Ed Welch and David Powlison. Before entering the field of Biblical counseling Patsy earned her B.A. Degree in Music at Jacksonville State University and taught private piano lessons for over 30 years. Her experience as a private piano teacher has served to train her well in the art of working with others one on one. Helping people grow and move from unhealthy living styles to more effective and productive behaviors has been her passion for all of her adult life. Patsy does not have psychological, psychiatric or medical training and does not provide evaluations or counsel relating to these areas. She does provide referrals to others trained to provide appropriate treatment, counsel and protection when necessary. Patsy’s desire is to see all men, women and children set free in the here and now to live a purposeful, meaningful, and fruitful life.
The Human Dilemma
Though we as humans live in a fallen world, our hearts continually cry out for more. This is because we were originally designed as perfect creatures dwelling in a perfect creation. Humanity’s home and life was the perfection of peace, love, and safety. Humans inherently know that life as we know it now is not the way it is supposed to be. This is why we are always longing to get back to the “Garden” and live in relationship with God.
Our Philosophy of Counseling
Since the institution of the church, counseling has been a powerful ministry and arm of change to bring men and women closer to the way life is supposed to be. Biblical-based counselors help counselees understand why life does not work. They do this by helping the counselee identify attitudes, beliefs, and feelings that are out of alignment with the way life was meant to be. Such attitudes are typically based on fear, anxiety, and/or anger. As these attitudes, beliefs and feelings are replaced with a healthy belief system, healthy behaviors will follow.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION
A Pastoral Counselor is not able to receive insurance reimbursement; therefore the Gadsden Vineyard Counseling Center is financially funded by donations and gifts. Any donation for counseling services is greatly appreciated and will help offset the costs of this ministry. However, the Board of Directors and staff at Gadsden Vineyard desire to provide counseling services to anyone who is in need of Biblical counseling; thus, donations are not required for services. Counseling services can also be sponsored by a church, friends, family, or an employer through tax-deductible contributions to the Gadsden Vineyard Church (designated for the counseling center). If you have a desire to support this ministry or know of anyone who would like to contribute please contact Patsy Bentley.
